Being with the Void and Letting It Speak My spiritual teacher and mentor Martin Exeter once said that the most powerful word in the English language is “Let”. After more than thirty years as a practitioner in the healing arts I am finally beginning to understand what he meant. In order for healing to occur both the individual who is seeking assistance and the practitioner offering their service need to develop the ability to let go into the unknown, into the darkness from which the light of perception and understanding will come. Interestingly, one of the animals that has been a guide and totem of mine for several years now is the owl. Owl medicine is very much about being able to maneuver and navigate in the dark. Therefore, I have come to refer to this skill in the healing arts as sitting in the void or in the dark. Any knowledge or information that might naturally arise comes after going into the void, after the heart has had a chance to relax and get engaged. The habit of chasing the sundry thoughts that arise prior to attaining stillness is a hard one to break. You don’t want to be chasing these “rabbits” and thinking that that is an effective treatment. These are but mere symptomatic echoes arising from the core of the actual condition. Stillness will take you to this core. Any content that is relevant follows this stillness. On Death and Dying: Coming and Going across the Doorsill During the last six months I have had the privilege of assisting several individuals through the process of dying and death. As a result of these experiences I am caused to ponder ever more deeply the powerful contribution that Attunement can offer during this very specific transition physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Given the fact that we live in a culture that seems to not only shy away from talking about death and dying, but overtly seems to support Herculean efforts to stay eternally youthful at all costs, it feels timely to share some of my own thoughts and reflections on this particular topic. Essential Vibration: The Wave of Life Present in every living thing is the perfect pattern of health. I like to think of this as a rhythmical Wave. The entire body is attuned to the rhythm of this Wave. It is as distinct for each person as their own fingerprint or DNA: the signature of the divine for this lifetime. Regardless of how out of sync or distorted a person’s health may seem to be, one can always be drawn back into this perfect pattern that lies embedded within this Wave. Our work as Attunement practitioners is to find this Wave and align ourselves with it, not getting distracted by the symptoms that appear where the pattern has become twisted and contorted. Even within such constrictions this fundamental Wave still exists. |
